On his personal blog yesterday, Exodus executive director Alan Chambers reprinted, without criticism, a press release by the Liberty Counsel, an organization that files lawsuits around the nation in favor of antigay discrimination and sodomy laws with harsh sentencing. (Previous XGW coverage of Liberty Counsel.)
The press release accuses the Massachusetts supreme court of “judicial tyranny” for deciding that “civil unions” are separate and unequal to marriage. The Liberty Counsel advocates a federal constitutional amendment that bans both gay marriage and civil unions.
Does Chambers have any critical thoughts about the LC press release, or does Chambers expect readers to agree with it because he deems it Christian? We shall have to see whether he responds later to his readers’ comments.
Liberty Council? Is that organization by any chance related to Willis Carto’s Liberty Lobby (holocaust revisionists)?
I sure don’t know Xeno, but I found this on their website…
https://www.lc.org/dayofpurity.htm:
The Day of Purity is a day when this nation’s youth can make a public demonstration of their commitment to remain sexually pure, in mind and actions. In today’s culture, students are bombarded with the message that they should become sexually active at a young age and to experiment with their sexual preferences. The Day of Purity offers the youth who strive for sexual purity an opportunity to stand in opposition to a culture of moral decline.
When the youth of America stand up for sexual purity they send a message to parents, churches, communities, legislators, and the media that they want a different America. Now is the time to let your voices be heard. Be a part of the “counter-culture” — be politically incorrect.
The Day of Purity is a step in the direction of positive change.
(You really need to follow the link to see the fantastic shirt they’re selling with one male and one female symbol.)
I’m confused. Are there a lot of kids out there who are trying to be “pure” but are feeling very tempted to try out the “gay and lesbian lifestyle” (aka, “different sexual preferences”)? Because I wasn’t aware of this. I don’t remember thinking, “sheesh, all my friends are doing it. I’m not going to be cool unless I’m gay too! What should I do? Oh, I just wish I could belong!”
I looked at this “Day of Purity” silliness a few weeks ago. It struck me that the proponents are in the business of selling t-shirts and other tchochkies. I emailed them mentioning that and got a big “harrumph” in return, but it is obvious that they are just trying to sell stuff to the rubes.
Well, so are the televangelists.
