Speaking of his four years attending New Hope Ministry, and Exodus International member ministry, Shawn O’Donnell describes how his group would go down to the mall to ogle guys after church on Sundays. After a while he realized the “therapy” just wasn’t working.

Well, whatever course he had taken – it was not working. No one doubts that.
I’m not familiar with Ogle Therapy. Is it similar to Cohen’s Holding Therapy?
I suspect that both tend to lead to Naked Together in Bed Therapy… but I’m just guessing.
Don’t forget Cook’s “hug you for ten minutes and rub my crotch against you” therapy.

That conclusion would probably be the safe bet when discussing conversion therapies in general.
I wonder what became of the others in his group.
When I was between the ages of nineteen and twenty, I engaged in my own form of denial with someone I met in Homosexuals Anonymous, where we constantly talked about sex with him pushing the conversation towards me and my member. Inevitably, I had sex with him after knowing him for two years. I would have enjoyed it more if it were a healthy gay relationship instead of having the baggage. That is my biggest regret.
shindo,
I wonder if that counts as “Anonymous sex”.
🙂
Timothy, I love your take on it! It was “Anonymous sex” with a hot guy. 🙂
Oh, I met a man at Tulsa’s PFLAG chapter who tells others that he met is partner at Homosexuals Anonymous. Both of the men were bisexuals.
I used to be friends with a man in Phoenix who told me that he knew some employees of the hotels in town which was where Exodus International Conference attendees stayed. He said that in most of the rooms rented by the EI partipants had used condoms and other things related to sexual intercourse left in the waste baskets.
You know what they say about the Exodus conference?
On the first day you pray for a prayer partner.
On the second day you pray with your prayer partner.
On the third day, your prayers are answered.

So you are saying,
I once had a friend in Phoenix,
who was employed by a hotel to clean it.
A conference, ex-gay, met there one day;
and he found …
oh, nevermind 🙂
I think any reports that indicate sexually active individuals are practicing safe sex are heartending. An ounce of prevention….
It’s nice to know they were being good about something when they were being so bad! 😉
Good natured jokes aside, I wonder if some put aside safe sex as a form of denial.
