‘Brokeback Mountain’ and ‘Capote’ constitute a sinister homosexual “assault” on Christmas, according to the “Traditional Values” Coalition.
Need proof of the assault? TVC’s Andrea Lafferty (who hasn’t seen the film) suggests one look no further than weeks-old quotes by exgay activists Stephen Bennett and Alan Chambers — who also hadn’t seen the film.
On Dec. 8, Chambers appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and blamed liberal acceptance of homosexuality for the “unbridled obsession and painful oppression” and “hopeless desperation” that — according to Chambers — gay people experience. Chambers claimed to speak from experience — but according to his own exgay testimony, Chambers only lived a so-called gay “lifestyle” for eighteen months — as a self-hating teen-ager dwelling in bars from 1990 to 1991, even as he was already undergoing exgay counseling.
In a holiday gesture to real-life men who identify with the movie’s tragic characters, Lafferty extends the following merry Christmas gifts: Spite, banishment from the entertainment media, and partisan politicking.
And this lovely bit from John Lillpop at MichNews.com (always good for a cringe) which starts:
“Only a maniacal cynic would accuse Hollywood of conspiring against Christian values by releasing Brokeback Mountain so close to Christmas.
OK, so I am a maniacal cynic!”
and ends:
“Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has banned Western music from Iran’s radio & TV stations… Wonder what this Hitler in a Scarf would have to say about Brokeback Mountain?”
Oh, probably about the same as you, John; thanks for pointing it out. They say you’re known by the company you keep.
Yes Mike but have you seen it?
Let’s see, if Roeper and Ebert reviewed a film which they admit they hadn’t seen, their review of the film wouldn’t carry much weight.
If a book critic attempted to review a book which he/she admitted they’d not read, that review would not cary much weight.
If a restaurant critic gave a review of a restaurant he/she hadn’t eaten at, it wouldn’t carry much weight.
Seems to me TVC, AFA, and other members of the Hitler Youth Grown Up And on Steroids don’t carry much weight when it comes to reviewing movies they haven’t seen.
Keep a file on their assessments of things they know nothing about (sometimes rather arrogantly) and use it against them later!
Why would they review a movie they haven’t seen? That sounds pretty suspect right there…
