Note From Daniel: Please send news, story leads and tips to Mike through this weekend. I really appreciate the flood of helpful emails readers have been sending me in regards to Love In Action. I’m taking a long weekend and heading for the Central Coast to photograph a college friend’s [government recognized] wedding. (Examples of my work [1], [2] and [3].)
While I’m gone I want all of you to continue emailing the gay media telling them to cover this story. (Except The Advocate who say they’re doing a story on it already.)
Do it, do it NOW.
Daniel,
I love your photography, it’s beautiful!
Chad
The Advocate intends to do so… here’s an email I received from them:
Hey Timothy
We are covering the protest in the magazine. A large photo
with a deep caption will appear in the Generation Q section
in early July. I would be very interested in doing a bigger
story on this, but would need to speak to Zach. Do you think
this is at all possible?

If anyone has a way to contact “Zach” please give John a call.
The Advocate would need the permission of the parents to publish. I’m also mindful that it’s already been suggested that a bit too much pressure is being felt by the young person involved. While including the soul at the heart of this occassion would be interesting, it’s not the guts of a story about adolescents being forced into such programs and the way the ex-gay groups and their “professional” supporters eagerly facilitate this toxic environment; against all the advice of all the mainstream medical bodies.I hope the Advocate broadens their vision to beyond this moment in time — I’m sure they can find adult ex-ex-gays if they want a photo and personal story — and take this torture right into the faces of LIA and Exodus.
One question: where is the “central coast”?
Enjoy your stay there, Dan, wherever it is.
It may interest some posters to know that a few members of the gay press have been paying attention, particularly those who frequent this site, (myself being one of them).
Las Vegas’ community will learn all about this story tonight on Q Radio, to which I am an infrequent contributor of late. I have also brought the story up with a few other magazines that regularly publish my writing.
I’m by no means a “big name” in gay journalism (whatever that means!). But I agree that this is an incredibly important story, and one to which attention must be paid.

The Advocate can cover the story simply because it is news. But yes, they would prob have to go through the parents to get to the kid if they want to specifically mention him but they can mention him anonymously all they want.
and…
The “Central Coast” of California. I’m in the town where that earthquake hit a few months ago.
Dan — not, I hope, because they heard you were arriving? 🙂
That’s quite OK Regan, I am familiar with it all because:…Some day (soon)… the two of us plan to beg/borrow/steal a grotesquely huge U.S. convertable and drive coast to coast with all the detours 3 months can provide. We have a file marked “Thelma & Louise” that is slowly filling up — getting the car should be a breeze, but where the heck are we going to find a younger Brad Pitt to pick up along the highway??? Don’t plan on driving over a cliff at the end though :-)With Dan I was just wondering if his impending visit was causing such terror among the locals that they called in an earthquake just to put him off!
Thanks. “Central coast” must be California speak. I was wondering whether he was going to someplace along the Mississippi River.
Very interesting article from a pro-gay website regarding “choice.” I like how this author is very logical in her arguments, and avoids any extreme viewpoints that are, by their very nature, incorrect.

just a comment… Patricia Nell Warren, who wrote the article, is also the author of “The Front Runner”, along with several other books.
You don’t hear so much about the book now, but when it was written – in the 70’s – it was one of the best known of early gay themed books. At one point it was supposed to be made into a movie starring Paul Newman, but that never materialized.
Has anyone pointed out the press conference they held in which they urged “tolerance”??
