"Love Won Out" had an unintended but positive effect on the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Straight and Allies organization at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Burdened by heavy religious-right surveillance, strict ideological correctness, spiritual conformity, and political partisanship, the "Love Won Out" antigay road show in Houston left some conference attendees feeling as though they were subjected to a police state.
The UTMB group responded to the Exodus-Focus on the Family conference with a public forum (scheduled for yesterday) in which, unlike LWO, "a healthy, positive, loving view of gays and lesbians can be shared."
According to the Galveston County Daily News (Mar. 30), the UTMB GLBSA forum was to feature a lesbian, a gay man, and the parents of a gay child.
Hi. While I have no doubts that “Love Won Out” may have come off as quite heavy-handed, I see no quote, data, or link in your posting to substantiate that claim. Is there an article somewhere that discusses this, or was it solely personal observation?
Kenster, thanks for pushing me to document things.
I do have first-hand accounts from people; I’m asking them now whether they would mind their reactions being publicized.
