Exodus today issued a call for support by Jeralee Smith of the NEA Ex-Gay Educators Caucus.
The caucus goal is to inject ex-gay activists into the nation’s schools, and to prevent intolerance toward them or their beliefs.
But what the caucus considers intolerance is unclear. Does Smith believe public school employees should be permitted to proselytize in the classroom?
From the caucus agenda:
Work with NEA to develop policies that recognize the needs of ex-gays in our education system?
Unfortunately, some ex-gays like Alan Chambers of Exodus say their “needs” — their insecurities and temptations –require that gays not be present in their schools, their workplaces, their churches, nor in the media.
I don’t quite follow with their concerns over social intolerance if they consider themselves to be ‘straight’. They’re pretty much free to live their own masochistic lives, being subjected to abuse from the religious reich as they wish.
What shouldn’t be tolerated is when they start placing sabots into the gears of queers that are happy with their orientation and lead happy lives, just because of their pathetic self-denying envy for such a peaceful and loving life. If they’re that happy with their new straight life, then they may as well shut up about it.
Maybe I don’t get it. Is this an admission that gays SHOULD be represented in the NEA; and, Exodus just wants “equal time?” I thought Exodus wanted no gay representation in the schools. Are they admitting they were wrong about that, or merely confused?
Let’s get something–uh–straight.
When I hear reports of kids yelling “ex-fag” at other kids on the school playground, I might agree that there is a problem regarding so-called “ex-gays.” But, until then, I won’t.
Hopefully they’ll require the activists to be true ex-gays. We know there aren’t too many of them actually around. 🙂

Flip flopping on statements is Exodus’ speciality. That’s what happens when your half confused and when the religious reich pull its puppet strings out of the blue.
What are these pro-gays afraid of? Truth.
You don’t have to be gay. It’s not “who” you are. You don’t have to succumb to those abnormal feelings. It’s a “condition” you don’t ask for but can “overcome”. Why are they threatened by this message? Why the need to ridicule it? If they don’t want to change, that is their choice. But allow the “choice to change” if one desires it and be “tolerant” of it.
Go NEA Ex-Gay!
Sam:
I am going to give you the benefit if the doubt that you are sincere, not an ideologue.
I don’t think anyone here is really threatened by the ex-gay message, per se. It’s the political perversion of that message, wielded like a club by the religious right in order to prevent GLTB from achieving equal rights. The RR message is that “if it is possible to change, you MUST change (and we will try to FORCE you to change, overtly and covertly).” Nobody here has problems with the ex-gay message: “you can change if you want to.” Although I must admit, most of us are skeptical that that is truly possible, and few of us wish to change.
Of course, I acan only speak for myself; others may want to chime in.
I am a brazilian “ex-gay” and I would like to encourage all those who have overcame same-sex attractions to help us to spread the message about healing and change. The world needs to know!
