The Rev. Allen Brill spent a week in June contrasting family values with the political goals of the religious-right organizations.
He also examined how politically non-rightist people of faith fall short in marketing their message.
Well worth a read.
Whenever I encounter statements like these I always wonder what cave such people hide in. Since I do follow fairly closely politics and religion, and I never run into anyone promoting these ideas in places both prominent and obscure, I can only conclude that they are not meant for general circulation. Why do those conservative Christians who are not right wing manage to keep their existence such a secret?
Possibly because the words Christian, conservative and/or liberal are not very good descriptions as to the details of what a particular group believes in. I have seen people and groups that call themselves conservative be pro-choice, pro-gay, and even pro-labor! I think the difference between liberal and conservative is less about the over all role of government and more about the view of what particular item should and should not be regulated by government and why.
Also, the right wing has a single unified world philosophy (turn the world back to a mythical 1950 minus perhaps the segregation). The opponents of the right wing really do not. A gay-right’s group would have little to say over things like abortion and how much would a pro-choice group gain by promoting gay marriage? Fortunately, I think for the most part the world sees through their ignorance and bigotry cause in the last twenty years they have not manage to close the abortion clinics, put women back into the kitchen, or force gays back into the closet.
Give them time.
