I noticed this posted at Box Turtle Bulletin and thought Jim wouldn’t mind if I shared it as an open forum post.
During an appearance at G-A-Y, a famous gay nightclub in London, Enrique Iglesias serenaded a gay male fan during the performance of his popular song Hero. This is a customary thing for Enrique to do, though the fan is usually a young girl. As you can see in the video above, this young man went home beaming. What a sweet thing to do.
I saw this clip over at Keith Boykin’s site. Boykin was speculating why certain artists, mostly female…have such huge gay fan bases.
Keith concluded that these women ACKNOWLEDGE and respect their gay fans and that makes the difference.
I was VERY moved by Iglesias’s gesture here. Whether the song is sung to a brother, friend, lover or any one who you respect and care for….gay or not, should be shown such tenderness.
But that men of disparate backgrounds, gay and straight can have a meeting of the hearts over the meaning in a song like this.
Iglesias soared in my estimation of him. Soared…
as obviously the heart of the young man he embraced.
Sweet indeed.
