In a meeting with [John Brown University] administrators, [expelled student Michael] Guinn said, he was given a code of conduct tougher than what other students had to follow. According to Guinn, he was told to not dress in women’s clothing, not slap others on the buttocks if he was a member of a sports team, not hug or shake hands with other men for too long, not “broadcast” his lifestyle, and not tell other students he was gay until he knew them well. A Tenable Belief offers an excellent analysis of this situation.
… he was told to not dress in women’s clothing …
Am I the only one who is wondering what that is doing in there?

What I don’t understand is, what is not up-to-par about this student’s belief? Even from a conservative Christian mindset, you can’t ask for more than a guy to completely give up his sexuality in the name of religion, which is what he did by claiming celibacy. It appears that, in this situation, the ONLY acceptable position for him would’ve been the “ex-gay” route. . .that is such a dangerous place for these schools to head.
I think this list comes from a very “Romans 1” type of thinking where homosexuality is seen as the result of some other evil in one’s life. That explanation is the only halfway logical one I can come up with in these situations, and yes, they included crossdressing as a homosexual indicator.
I guess my question is, what is Michael Guinn doing at John Brown University? There are plenty of other small liberal arts colleges that are more than willing to tolerate who you are and take your tuition money. It’s not like there’s a shortage of colleges vs. students. Vote with your feet and your pocketbook in the great marketplace of ideas.
Phil,
Apparently both of his parents work at his college. He might of received a family employee discount of sorts. Eitherway, still not a good excuse.
“Guinn said he posted pictures of himself in drag from before he attended JBU but meant to post the pictures under a private setting that would only allow certain people to access them. Guinn said he mistakenly posted them in a public manner that allowed access to anyone.”

In this instance, at least, cross-dressing was specific to the student, not just a stereotypical response to being gay.
I think Jason Hunter and Mark Gotton are one and the same…and are just trolls trying to stir up trouble. If they are actually gay (which seems very unlikely), they’re probably of the “ex” variety. Don’t give them any oxygen…
Christine is correct — “Gotton” and “Hunter” were using the same computer. I’ve banned them and deleted the comments relating to their trolling.
