A recent tweet from Alan Chambers:
Yeah, somehow I doubt we will submit an ex-gay app. But if we do, please ask that it be removed. We still haven’t’ heard from Apple, so to be safe please keep up the pressure until we do.
Edited 11:06 pm to reflect the fact that no official notice has been received from Apple.
Freedom? Nah. If it were really about freedom in the First-Amendment rights sorta way I’m pretty sure Alan means, Apple should let the Phelps clan, the KKK and Hot’n’Horny Lolitas Ltd have apps, too. It’s about a company deciding it doesn’t want to support homophobia.
Yes, but like wrapping one’s argument in the flag in times of war, claiming infringement of free speech is a good way to play to peoples emotions and bypass a critical inspection of the situation.
I, for one, am tired of being referred to as “homophobic”. I am not “afraid” of homosexuals , neither do I hate them and neither does Exodus Int’l. By silencing the desents to the pro-gay opinions, you are in essence guilty of the same infringement upon freedom of expression and speech that you are claiming to protect. A free world is one in which we sometimes have to tolerate voices of those with whom we disagree. But this also makes us stronger and smarter because then we are forced to examine our own arguments and dig deeper for the facts to support our opinions or beliefs. It seems to me that the pro-gay community may be the ones who are afraid.
Who has been silenced, Cherryl?
@Cherryl
Word to the wise, Cheryl. Learn how to spell dissent before expressing it.
@Michael
That’s a tad petty, don’t you think?
@Cherryl
Once again, this is not a matter of ideological warfare. This is not liberals vs. conservatives, nor Christianity vs. secular humanism, nor is it a political conversation. Any group is entitled to whatever opinions it might have, however disgusting they might be. Exodus doesn’t run on ideology and opinion, though. Exodus runs on a patchwork facsimile of scientific fact.
Calling out Exodus is no different than calling out a snake oil salesman for his inability to cure cancer.
Cherryl, if you’re tired of being called homophobic, the easiest way to solve the problem is to not engage in homophobic thoughts and actions. Now, I don’t know you so I can’t say which thoughts or actions you hold that are homophobic, but I can certainly point to the ones that apply to Exodus–and has been shown ad nauseum, Exodus’ own documents expose such attitudes and actions.
Further, rather than just “dig deeper for the facts to support our opinions or beliefs” one would hope you’d be equally humble and willing to examine those opinions and beliefs to see how they affect others. Exodus is certainly not willing to do that. Are you?
