Performance artist Peterson Toscano and fellow blogger Christine Bakke announced today the launch of Beyondexgay.com, a new online community designed to provide support for “survivors” of ex-gay programs.
“The ex-gay experience is unique in many ways. No one understands it better than those of us who have been through it. Creating a communal space for ex-gay survivors to tell their stories allows us to share what led us into an ex-gay lifestyle and ways we have been able to recover from it,” Bakke said in a press release issued today by Soulforce.
Beyondexgay.com looks to be a valuable resource for those that have been hurt or disillusioned by their experiences with ex-gay ministries. For years such individuals have quietly fallen through the cracks as Exodus has publicly claimed its “hundreds of thousands” of alleged success stories, so this new venture should provide a counterbalance to the rosy pictures painted by Exodus spokespersons.
In the same press release, Soulforce announced that it will be hosting The Survivor’s Conference: Beyond Ex-gay, to be held June 29 – July 1 at the University of California-Irvine in conjunction with Beyondexgay.com and the LGBT Resource Center at UC Irvine. Registration for the conference is being conducted through the Soulforce website.
I’m going to Irvine!
Who is going with me?!
I’ll be there!
It would be wonderful to attend this.
I registered for the conference too! Looking forward to it. =)
Great work Peterson and Christine. I’ve been running a yahoo group for exexgays since 2000. I’ll spread the word.
Also our Freedom 2 b(e) online community https://www.freedom2b.org/phpBB2/ also has a number of exgay survivors……I’ll let them know as well.
You’ll be pleased to know that in Australia we are slowly seeing the eroding of exgay ministries here.

Anthony, I fear this is not the case in Malaysia and Singapore.
There is a silent but brewing exgay storm here.
Fortunately there are not much gays buying the exgay talk.
Unfortunately, both governments and some major Christian churches are still behind these groups, supporting their ridiculous claims of gay knowhow and continue to misinform the general public in this region.
In reference to the article, does this mean the birth of a major ex-ex-gay group?
It’s going to be great! Cant wait.
Oh great…..
yet ANOTHER orientation!!!
*geez*
*wink, wink*
(i have a narrative on there.) 🙂
I am very excited about this and will be there myself.
Pam! It was great to read your narrative, AND it’s an honor to be right next to you in the narrative section (I’m the guy you talked with about illustrating your book ;-). A lot of us who hang out here are on the new site. Christine and Peterson did a GREAT job with it!
