I have added some security measures to prevent spammers from posting ads for poker, pills, and porn to this site. In the past, these ads rarely appeared on the site, but they filled our writers’ e-mail boxes and our database with spam.
These security steps should not affect legitimate commenters, but if your comment is blocked or delayed for some reason, please let me know.
Mike, I suggest that you add a graphic generator of skewed chatracters which posters need to insert into an input text box. Unlike the human brain which can make sense out of complex patterns, current automated spamming scripts can’t decipher them.
I put Haloscan comments on my blog and I’ve never had a spammer.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I’m considering a graphic generator, though it might hinder access by the visually impaired. The recent solution is working quite well, so I hope a graphic code number won’t become necessary.
I’ve considered Haloscan, but the current system retains comments in a manner that could be transferred to another platform if necessary. I haven’t figured out how Haloscan comments would be exported and linked to their respective posts after a platform change.
