The Washington Blade reported last week on an exgay TV ad campaign by a Washington, D.C.-area church. According to the report, critics including Wayne Besen say the ads link adult homosexuality to childhood sexual abuse.
At Straight, Not Narrow, writer Jim Johnson republishes a well-written outreach letter by Sharone Belt, who is a lesbian Christian, to the Arlington Assembly of God in Arlington, Va., which sponsored the ads.
I have not seen the ads, so I have no opinion about them.
Whenever I see the ‘Assembly of God’ concept, what springs to mind is a factory assembly line in Roman times. On the line, little statues move along with instructions. Put female body, next station add helmet, next station add owl. Assemble an Athena.
This has always struck me as an hysterically funny name for a church.
