In the same week that a Time magazine cover story granted substantial print space to the Exodus exgay outreach program to youth, Exodus president Alan Chambers cited media confusion over Harriet Miers as proof of media bias against exgays.
After several media outlets thought Miers might be connected to Exodus International, Chambers says:
One friend on Capitol Hill said, “At least we now know the press’ lack of reporting on the “ex-gay” community is willful resistance and not just lack of knowledge whatsoever.”
He shouldn’t whine. This is the most publicity they have had for a few years.
Actually, NancyP, Alan should be overjoyed that he doesn’t get more coverage.
Can you imagine if there was a legitimate well researched article about Exodus? It would expose the education level of their counselors, the across-the-board refusal to track effectivity, the specific claims of abuse made by participants, the financial ties with religous/political activists (nearly all identifiable ex-gays are fully funded in some way by ex-gay or anti-gay activism), the claims that they make and proof that they know they are lying, the colorful history of the ex-gay leaders (with their drug abuse and seeing visions and hearing God talk to them in an audible voice), as well as an abysmal lack of successful results.
Imagine if an article reported all this. They would be claiming bias and calling on churches to boycott and legislators to pass laws.
Truth and accurate reporting are not the friends of Exodus International
