From the Des Moines Register via Gay News Blog and Good As You:
Exgay activist Chad Thompson’s former employer, the Iowa Family Policy Center, opposed an anti-bullying program scheduled for Oct. 6 in Cedar Rapids. IFPC argues that efforts to reduce antigay violence are really just a hoax designed to promote a (conveniently undefined) “political agenda.”
Brad Clark, executive director of the GLBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force, said the forum’s purpose is to make schools safer for gay students, who he said face frequent harassment and bullying.
“All that we’re talking about here is making sure kids are safe,” he said. “If we do have an agenda, it’s to create safe schools.”
In the view of IFPC, it is legitimate to work to reduce violence generally among youths — just don’t mention that homosexuals are people, too.
I find it appalling that any group of individuals, especially so-called christians, and ex-gays would oppose legislation to protect gays from bullying. As I said in a post in the previous thread, these people have obviously never experienced a fist to the mouth repeated several times for good measure, or language so hateful it would strip even the strongest person of self worth. They ought to experience the height of shame for even suggesting fighting something like this. I am totally disgusted by the actions of these people, they are inhumane, selfish bigots who, if there really was a god, would be the first to be eternally punished.
I agree, anyone who thinks protecting children from what really amounts to verbal and mental torture has issues. I’ve been through that and let me tell you at the level experinced it isn’t something you can ignore or just get over. My entire school (exept 5 other “outcasts”) including some elementry students hated and ridiculed me; and I was in high school, I didn’t even know some of their names!
