Susan Wheeler, mother of seven, is touring the Philadelphia area, sharing her documentary video, “Jim in Bold.”
The video brings together stories about gay youth across America, weaving them with the tragedy of her son Jim, who was severely tormented by bullies in high school. In one incident, teen-agers threw him in a shower and urinated on him. Five months after graduation, Jim killed himself.
Wheeler attempted to share the documentary with her senator. However, Sen. Rick Santorum refused to meet with her or watch the program.
Instead of condemning bullying, it was reported today, Santorum puts the burden back on struggling gay youth. In a new interview with GQ magazine, he tells gay youth to simply resist any “temptations” of homosexuality.
