Peter LaBarbera was on the Janet Mefferd radio show , when Mefferd asked LaBarbera what he knows about NBC’s The New Normal:
LaBarbera: … you can see the incredible propaganda that we’re going to be subjected to in this movie (sic). What’s most shocking about it is it’s just so out in the open now that NBC can be doing heavy duty promotion of a TV show that’s built totally around the idea of two homosexual men adopting a baby, is that really ‘the new normal’ for America in 2012? It’s shocking.
Shocking I tell ya, just shocking!
LaBarbera: It’s all about manipulation … When is Hollywood ever going to have a healthy, contented ex-gay in a movie or a TV show? Not a caricature, not the miserable, struggling ex-homosexual … I’m talking about a fully happy, contented former homosexual.
When “former” homosexuals actually exist, Peter.
The two then blame gays for God’s proverbial “judgment” on this country. As though God turns a blind eye to the plethora of real violence and the glorification of it in the entertainment industry — one of our most popular exports.
But a gay couple so much in love that they want to share it with a child — that, that’s worthy of incurring God’s wrath?

The problem is, you see, Peter, that fully happy, contented former homosexuals are rather like centaurs, mermaids or leprechauns: they are so thin on the ground that no-one actually knows what a real one looks like. All the real life “former” homosexuals who advertise themselves in the media come across as either miserable and struggling or phony as hell – or both.
Find us one and we’ll do it.
Good one, Emily.
But Peter…..You did get TV coverage. Didn’t you see the Queer as Folk episode on ex-gays. It was so real. Sad and tragic
Anthony,
Touche! I remember that episode, vividly.
And yes, violence is more glorified and accepted in film and television, than gay love is.
Judging by the complaints by the anti gay, their preoccupation with gay characters while never complaining about the level of graphic violence there is, is evidence.
You all might recall the owner of the Crossroads Cineplex in Salt Lake City refusing to screen “Brokeback Mountain”, but “Hostel” a very graphically violent movie got a pass.
Indeed, “The Passion of the Christ” was also extremely violent, and got endorsed, even by the Pope. I was that movie, and when I described it as ‘violence porn’ on a website frequented by Christians, they turned into a mad mob condemning me for that offense.
I have often brought up the horrific statistics on violence against females in America. In my city alone, there have been recent murders of women by boyfriends and husbands. Leaving very small children vulnerable to the foster care system. A woman’s burning body was left in the middle of a residential street and she was found by families taking their children to school.
In fact, some of this violence has occurred in the open in front of witnesses.
I have tried to appeal to NOM, AFTAH, FRC, all the usual suspects that their energies would best serve the cause of domestic violence. Which has increased because of the bad economy.
No sale.
Not even a discussion about if from Mr. LaBarbera. Even when we had direct emails with each other.
One thing that I’ve noticed about ex gays, is there isn’t much individuality or difference in expression or how they talk about themselves and their conversion. They don’t say much about their professional lives.
It’s all Jesus or God, all the time. Like Stepford drones or something. And it does get creepy after a while.
I don’t think it dawns that gay folks are different for a very good reason.
Different is what we all are. It’s when everyone talks, looks and believes the same that life gets excruciatingly BORING.
