Reports suggest that a vaccine has been found that is 100% effective at preventing certain strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). These strains are primarily associated with cervical cancer in women and anal cancer in gay men. The virus has not been tested on men so, though it is likely to be effective, we cannot be certain at this point.
For some years now, anti-gay activists have been screaming about how “homosexual behavior” causes “gay cancer” such as this bit from our friends at Focus on the Family:
Solid, irrefutable evidence proves that there are lethal consequences to engaging in the defining features of male homosexuality—that is, promiscuity. Active homosexuals are vulnerable to dozens of sexually transmitted diseases.19 According to one report, the risk of anal cancer rises by an astounding 4,000 percent for those engaging in homosexual intercourse and doubles again for those who are HIV positive.20
What they have not been telling you is that the occurrence rate, while greater than in the heterosexual community, is only about 35 out of 100,000 (or 0.035%), which might help explain why it had not yet been tested on gay men. Additionally, HIV positive men are twice as likely to get anal cancer than non-HIV infected men.
However, if this new vaccine does what is expected, “gay cancer” may become so rare as to disappear from the anti-gay arsenal.
I’m sure they’ll find something to replace it.
Syphilis my dear boy. Syphilis of course has the added benefit of being associated as one of those diseases of the dark ages and such that only a group as pathetic as the fags are capable of brining back upon society.
Nice try Dan, not biting. Have a nice life.
Sorry Dan, at first read seemed trolly. They probably will bring it into their handy little book of lies.
For as much humor that goes in your posts I’m really surprised you consistently fail to get mine.
Actually DKos had a thread showing how the Christians are against approval of this vaccination as it may encourage ‘promiscuity’. Seems the Jesus people would rather have whole bunches of folks die than let out a cure that might reduce the risk of sex.
I would just like to point out that providing ~factual~ information about the dangers of promiscuity and anal sex is not anti-gay. But Focus On The Family is not interested in gay people having safer sex, they just want us to have no sex.
“the defining features of male homosexuality—that is, promiscuity”. Cool! I’ve had sex with one (1) man, and we’ve been married for 6 years. That must mean that I’m not gay.
FOTF and the FRC…have skewed history in damaging and stupid ways.
Heterosexual sex is fraught with FAR more risks than gay sex.
Especially for women.
Some dumbassed anti gay clergyman proffered his take on sex, that since the vagina was the ONLY organ that was an entrance, that made hetero sex the most valid…because all other body parts used for sex were ‘exits’ and unhealthy to be used for it.
Of course, he was only trying to prosecute gay sex. And he didn’t quite explain how lesbians manage satisfying sex lives with TWO vaginas.
Since the same millennial time line of sex between men and women.
Heterosexual sex was often fatal to women because of the complications of childbearing.
So the decision around procreative sex for a woman, was literally a MORTAL one.
Who are these anti gay sex creeps fooling?
NON procreative sex is THE most healthy because it lessens pregnancies.
So committed monogamy and marriage is really good, but even better FOR gay folks, because even pregnancies in hetero marriage aren’t ALWAYS welcome or good for a marriage.
Not being cautious about disease or choice of partner and having too many is what’s risky.
That’s true for EVERYONE, gay or straight.
So-this revelation about what sexual cancers can be treated even more effectively is good news for everyone too.
Gay or not. Male or female.
Syphillis was the AIDS of it’s time. When it was incurable and lead to many of the same opportunistic troubles similar to HIV…there was no gay population to blame for it’s spread.
The horror and evil of the Tuskeegee Experiment on unsuspecting black men, I can understand would foster the same distrust of public medicine with gay men.
Gay or straight, we deserve to have ALL STD’s be seen as an enemy of human health.
Not the unfortunate people, especially of marginalized minorities, who have contracted the infections.
Oh, come on Focus people….Why have they neglected to mention the incidence rate for cancer of the ovary and uterus? It’s also about 35 per 100,000 and (firmly suspected) caused by the same HPV and (firmly suspected) sexually transmitted.Gay men, even the sluts I rush to assure you, have NEVER recorded a case of those cancers. And here’s a factoid for everyone (and I’m sure you’ll be glad of the illumination) — I found this trawling the nccd.gov site… did you know the white folks get melanomas of the skin at a rate 1955% more than the colored people??? No, me neither. Who’d have thunk! I’m just wondering what WEIRD SEX THINGS white American males must be doing with their skin.(need I /sarcasm for anyone?)
Grantdale,
>did you know the white folks get melanomas of the skin at a rate 1955% more than the colored people???
It’s unnatural, I tell ya. Can’t you just see the hand of God in this? If He intended people to be white, He wouldn’t be striking them down this way. Repent!! Repent, I say!!
All you need to do is buy my CD’s and attend my seminars and repigmentation camps and I’ll teach you how to be ex-white and leave that destructive white lifestyle. Amen and amen.
JUST FOR THE RECORD
This “Tim” guy is a different fella than me.
Welcome, Tim, glad to have ya.
Thanks Timothy, such great people have that name don’t they. I am so used to seeing trolls on these sites and jumped the gun at Dan’s earlier post, I’ll exercise more restraint in the future. 🙂 (Maybe). Anyway, this is a great site and I commend the guys for putting this together on an issue that is a serious problem in the gay community.
Let me say something about the ridiculous ideas about how an HPV vaccine will promote promiscuity. I am a former Mormon and was excommunicated for being gay. My sister was a Mormon. She had sex for the first time with a police officer who she dated for about a year. Well, he gave her HPV. She was devistated. The church told her basically that her salvation was threatened because of the sex she had outside of marriage. She started to feel shame because of the HPV and church. After that, she had serious mental illness and was institutionalized on and off. She eventually committed suicide. I have always held that her mental illness was tied to having HPV and the church actions. A vaccine would tell her she was ok. Compassion from the church would have made life a bit easier. She had neither and I saw her destruction.
BTW I have a lot of respect for the Mormon church, but their views of gay people and women are problematic. A female friend of mine was raped by a fellow member and she was the one punished by the church. The male member was never even approached about the situation. But stuff like this go beyond the church.
Aaron, first let me offer my heartfelt love to you and your sister’s spirit world journey.
I’m paying my respects as one with their native American (Chicasaw) religion still here.
I can’t say often enough-that I believe the emancipation of women and homosexuals will bring a more lasting peace on the world.
We are prosecuted before the fact with the powers for world destruction…
But not the power of it’s healing through compassion and the homosexual roles for building bridges that lesson the sexual tensions between those natural in men and women.
Older faiths, that were here much longer than Christianity and Islam get that.
Jews are flexing their spiritual bodies to include women and gay folks into the family.
Mormons, and Catholics and some Protestants…still playing catch up.
I have taken issue with Joseph Smith anyway.
Not a prophet, but a slave holder and unprincipled man who used womanizing and xenophobia veiled with Scripture.
He wasn’t the first, he won’t be the last…
and your precious sister suffered for it.
Perhaps we are powerful…and crucial…and the truly enlightened never did or no longer….fear us.
