Truth Wins Out, the non-profit that works against conversion therapy and anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry is reporting that UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will likely renege on plans for a conversion therapy ban in that country.
As prime minister five years ago, Theresa May promised a ban on practices that sought to suppress or “cure” a person’s sexual orientation. Boris Johnson repeated the pledge during the 2019 general election campaign, The Guardian reports. Now, Sunak is prepared to drop the legislation entirely citing phony fears that it would inhibit religious practices. He also disingenuously claims that such protections were “problematic or ineffective in other countries”.

So called conversion therapy or Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (S.O.C.E.), are a practice widely discredited by every major medical and psychiatric association in the West. It is both ineffective and often detrimental for those who try it. Therefore it is likely a fraud that involves trading money for the promise of a false “cure.” This is especially heinous in the case of minors.
