The anti-gay website WeAreThinking.com has posted a number of “future television spots” including the one seen above. These same spots appear on YouTube with “PFOX” in the title of every video. One of those videos features Dr. Robert Spitzer which recently appeared on PFOX’s newly designed homepage.
Consistent with pretty everything done by WeAreThinking, we have absolutely no idea who is behind this or who the people in the videos are (with the exception of Spitzer). See previous coverage of WeAreThinking for an examination of how bizarre of an “organization” it is.
I encourage readers to post comments PFOX’s YouTube videos asking:
Why does the person in this commercial remain unidentified?
How is this person affiliated with WeAreThinking and PFOX?
What is PFOX’s affiliation with WeAreThinking?
Sounds like a James Earl Jones wannabe… it’s not Jones is it? If not for his message, the timbre of his voice would be a turn-on.
And among his parents and most notably with Dr. King, as a non-violent activist and also the person who planned and coordinated the March on Washington, was a gay man, Bayard Rustin. Rustin once said: “The barometer of where one is on human rights questions is no longer the black community, it’s the gay community; because it is the community which is most easily mistreated.”
.
Got me as to why PFOX would be agitating against gay rights. Well, I can imagine why, I just don’t understand it. I get the idea that such groups are nothing more than another mouthpiece for FotF or some such group. I imagine if one really looked into the money and the people heading such organizations, it might be found that just a few groups like FotF are behind it all (ok, enough with the conspiritorial thinking).
…
The anti-gay Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum in Montgomery County Maryland had a meeting last week where they showed a bunch of these videos, plus the one by Spitzer from the PFOX site. That crowd loved it.
PB
Those are absolutely DISGUSTING.
There’s also a “Flag as Inappropriate” link marked with an X just under the video box. And I would say that the overtly slanderous nature of these videos applies as per YouTube rules:
https://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines
Under the Don’t Cross the Line heading:
[emphasis mine]
It would appear that the same person who created the dreadfully coded PFOX web site is also posting the videos – Furryllama E-Business and Web Design (warning, gratuitous flash ahead). They also created Richard Cohen’s site. I guess it’s nice to have a niche that no one else will touch.
Perhaps not all that important, but I was interested in who was actually posting these as PFOX has not shown themselves to be technically savy in the past, to say the least.
Maybe one of them got a small child to help them out with their tech or something.
Did anyone else notice “We Are Thinking’s” use of the Michael Swift “Gay Revolution” piece? It’s been widely stated that this was a satire, in the vein of another Swift (Jonathan). Which means they’re lying their faces off, on purpose. Can’t they get real stuff to rebut?
Jayelle- I hadn’t noticed their use of the Swift piece, but if they are, you are certainly right. Anyone that even so much as runs a google search on that piece would know it is satire that has been hijacked and misused by anti-gay folks to intentionally mislead.
I guess if they are using Spitzer out of context too, they don’t mind that too much, though.
I have information on the people behind WeAreThinking that was provided to me by an XGW reader last July. I wasn’t able to post the information last year due to personal circumstances that intervened, but I will post what I can shortly.
The mysterious gentleman apparently does not know about Bayard Rustin who planned the March on Washington and was gay. Nor does he know of Coretta Scott King’s support for LGBT civil rights and her emphatic statements that LGBT rights are civil rights.
He is the revisionist, not us. And what’s with the thinking allusion? Thinking what? Thinking when? Thinking how? And WHO???
I consistently finding it amusing that some groups think that if they can trot out an African American to make statements of bigotry, they can’t be called bigots—after all, the person making the statement is African American. It betrays a profound ignorance about racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry.
John, this kind of thing reminds me of an exchange I had with the girl who would become my wife, who comes from Russia, where there aren’t many black people.
I had said that a black person (I think it was Reggie White) was being “used” by the right wing to spout anti-gay rhetoric. She considered for a second, then said, “You believe that black people are exactly as good as white people, right?” I nodded. “Then can they not also be equally as *bad*?”
Yes, yes, yes, they can, and it’s sorry, and it sucks. All it proves is that bigots can come in all makes, models, and colors.
David Roberts:
That would most likely be Gabriel Espinosa of Furryllama Web Consulting. The email matches the YouTube handle and the phone # matches the one for the Website.

Everyone should respond to the video of Dr. Spitzer with a link to the Truth Wins Out video of him slamming these people!

Googling FurryLlama and Mr. Espinosa further:
Yes, he is the owner of furryllama.com (confirmed by whois and other references), and he has this kind comment in response to a news item about San Francisco Catholic Archbishop George Niederauer favoring a compromise plan that makes it possible for Catholic Charities adoption workers in his archdiocese to refer homosexual couples to adopt children:
Published by: Gabriel Espinosa

Another cretinous bishop strikes one for the devil and zero for God. One for the homos eternal damnation and zero for the childrens eternal salvation. And there is nothing unchristian about what i write. Jesus spoke in much the same way when referring to corruptors of children.

gespin3549 (Espinosa) actually commented on the TWO video earlier today.
PFOX’s web designer is clearly helping to redistribute and exploit the videos, but let’s be clear: The videos were not made by PFOX. They were made approximately two years ago by the mysterious people who are behind WeAreThinking.com.
And be clear, as well, if Spitzer didn’t support PFOX, his video wouldn’t be the showpiece of their new web site. You might as well admit it: he’s one of them.
You tell me — who would let themselves be used that way against their will, and not complain publicly? Would you? You’d say nothing? He’s not complaining — he’s been playing both sides of the fence, and now it’s clear which side he’s really on.

Is it just me, or does the guy in this video have a distinctly non-American accent. It actually sounds like he is speaking the type of British English spoken in many African countries. With all the anti-gay hoopla coming from the African Anglicans…it wouldn’t suprise me if they were somehow involved.
I’m sorry…but he IS NOT American!! Listen closely…
Hmmmm.. “150 years of struggle for negro rights” that’s along time. I wonder how long homosexuals have been struggling? Oh maybe a couple thousand years under church rule in various different cultures. I love how people like to equate what we “do” with our identity. It makes it so easy to dehumanize us. Anti-gay groups just wont except that it goes beyond our actions.
I’m certainly not going to make light of what racial minorities have faced in this country, but it just seems sad that someone with so much understanding of their own struggle can turn around and apply those same chains of bondage, that once held them hostage, onto another group of people. 150 years ago minorities were simply judged because of the color of their skin. It didn’t matter how the minorities thought about themselves or how much they knew they weren’t bad people…it didn’t matter. They were abused on all levels just because of who they were.

You might have something there. I found this site earlier when Googling “Maxwell Jackson” who has a lovely piece of vilification on the wearethinking site. But the only thing I could find that connects it to wearethinking is that it was obviously done by the same web designer. The pastor’s last name is jackson too, but not Maxwell.
However, it is in the UK.

Pitting African-Americans against homosexuals in the name of negro pride. Positioning the disabled against homosexuals in the name of life.
So what about an African-American homosexual? Or the disaled who are gays? Civil rights are not being hijacked. But civil rights could brew into a storm of a civil war pretty soon. What are they THINKING?
I finally figured out why this has been bugging me.
There is almost a drug-like subtlety to the stickiness of their poison words. (sweet sweet poison)
There are elements of pure glamorization of evil in those videos.
It’s not natural hatred. It’s the kind that was intended to breed.
They have an infestational quality to them.
it just seems sad that someone with so much understanding of their own struggle can turn around and apply those same chains of bondage, that once held them hostage, onto another group of people.
That’s the point, he doesn’t have any understanding of his own civil rights movement. He wasn’t around when it was going on and judging by his accent, neither were his forefathers.
It would be interesting to know if this video was made in this country or not.
What I found interesting was the adamant belief that black civil rights were guaranteed in the constitution. The point was that they weren’t, they got added starting in the 13th amendment.

I can understand your reasoning, but I think we need to be careful of such an assumption without more facts. Depending on where that video came from, Dr. Spitzer may not have a legal basis to challenge it.
Good point Sammie.
Dr. Spitzer may not have a legal basis to challenge it.
He doesn’t need a legal basis to tell XGW or Wayne Besen or some reporter that he objects to his video being used by PFOX. It’s a free country, he can say something. But he’s not.
PFOX has been using his video for a long time, and now this WeAreThinking group, and he’s not complaining a bit.
Just think, every single person who clicks on PFOX’s web site is greeted by a video of Spitzer telling them how the “gay activists” are distorting the truth to suit their political goals. It does not appear there is a gun to his head. And it really does not appear that he objects to PFOX using his video, which actually may have been made for them specifically, since no one seems to have seen it before.
He’s making a statement, big time, and sitting back home laughing his ass off about it.

Again, I don’t think we can make such assumptions, and certainly we can’t assign motive from the facts available. Spitzer has recently objected to the distortion of his work. He may yet express similar objection to PFOX, who knows. To be honest, if he took the time to swat at every group who did this, I doubt he would have much time for anything else.
Misquoting Spitzer is an ex-gay’s favorite passtime
By the way, comments are not being posted at YouTube. I have made several comments (not nice, end with “Who is thinking about what?”). The comments are being “moderated” before posting. But you can still low-rate.
You should be extremely cautious about expecting anything from Spitzer — he’s playing you. Click on the PFOX web site and listen to him, watch him sell their bullshit. That video runs hundreds of times a day, his face, his voice, his words promoting their belief that gay advocates are twisting the facts for political reasons. You don’t have to read between the lines, it’s what he’s saying. No gun at his head, no arm-twisting, he is simply expounding their message to their audience, for them. You’re in a sad state of denial if you won’t see that.
If he didn’t like it he’d say something publicly, unless he’s dead, and it’s my understanding he’s not.
His support for gays is identical to Bush’s support for the troops. Just the same. Says FoF makes him “uncomfortable,” that’s it. He’s fuckin’ with you.

I looked up the domain name listed at the end of the videos, and its contact information appears to be fake: it lists an address that the postal service says doesn’t exist, with a severely incorrect zip code. The listed email address also points to a nonexistant domain.
If you wish to complain about this, look up the DNS information through your favorite domain registrar, find the link to complain about invalid domain information, and complain about one or more of these problems.
Why when you do a search on that domain in Google it comes back with “online casinos?” The listing looks like this:

Strange….
Waylon, you are simply repeating your opinion on this without any additional facts. That is more argument than debate and we are only interested in the latter. You are also using language which is not appropriate for XGW. Please be careful about this in the future and let’s make this the last post on this issue for now.

I don’t know who this man is, I almost don’t care. I’ve argued with other black folks over this. I stand firm. I have historical facts and context on my side.
I’m writing an entire stage play regarding this. This man, was never a slave himself.
And even the revelation about Al Sharpton’s and Strom Thurmond’s connection to each other….Sharpton himself was never a slave.
I don’t disavow the cruelty of the whole business of slavery.
But the horrifically violent murders of JR Warren and Scotty Joe Weaver, and the recent pictures of Iranian teenagers swinging from the end of ropes in a public lynching DEMANDS we look at ALL aspects of life between gay and heterosexual.
Straight folks have some explaining to do, not complaining to do.
This man made me want to leap into that screen and SHAKE him.
Hijacking?! Hijacking civil rights struggle?!
Okay….
Do the gays and lesbians serving in the military, risking life and limb so that this man can speak of them so freely, did they HIJACK his freedom of speech?
Did Ahmed Nastoh, age fourteen, hijack the civil right to go to school without being bullied and assaulted for being or suspected of being gay so that suicide was his best option?
Did Scotty Joe Weaver, a cancer survivor, only eighteen, did he HIJACK his job at Waffle House as the only support of his sick mother, or did he hijack the right to not be beaten and stabbed and burned beyond recognition by three roommates?
Did Alan Turing, the mathematical genius who deciphered the Nazi enigma machine and literally saved millions and secured victory in the war, HIJACK his ultimate firing and death in obscurity?
Did Michael Bennett, Broadway choreographer HIJACK turning his musicals into the longest running shows in the history of the Great White Way, or did he hijack dying young of AIDS, but leaving a legacy that made many people millionaires and kept dancers employed for decades?
Or maybe it’s James Baldwin who HIJACKED literary genius and never saw the inside of Jim Crow to shape his storytelling?
Did all those devoted gay parents of adopted children HIJACK the civil right to want to marry and secure their children as any noble, loving parent would?
Or did they hijack the civil right that children in their care never be taken away arbitrarily for the parents marital status and not for abusing or neglecting their children?
W….T….F?!!!?
I mean…W…T…F?!
PFOX is doing the hijacking. They have hijacked every salacious, bigoted and unjustifiable stereotype regarding gay people and filtered it through the lens of supremacy.
A black man should recognize that. A black man wouldn’t place that mantle on his own shoulders.
A black man should have the moral understanding to know better and to shun what the same faces and political allies of segregationists are telling him now.
He’s older than I am, and should DEFINITELY know better. History taught me.
But certain moral standards belong to those willing to receive them.
And clearly this man has hijacked supremacy and couldn’t care less about what that means.
One can’t hijack civil rights, human rights.
But hijacking supremacy is worse.
