The Ledger of Lakeland, Fla., is succinct in summarizing the situation:
Why can’t preachers always practice what they preach? Because they’re all sinners, just like the rest of us. Why can’t the bigger sinners among them at least avoid preaching what they don’t practice? That’s a better question. If they did, maybe we wouldn’t have so much hypocrisy to talk about.
Don’t preach what you don’t practice.
Welcome back, XGW!
The reporting on Haggard has focused on him confessing a sexual problem which has persisted throughout his adult life, while largely ignoring a key revelation:
So, he continues to cling desperately to the thread that, despite a decades-long sexual struggle, his contacts with Mike Jones were not sexual.
Boggles my mind.
Maybe he engaged in homosexual sexual behavior but while doing so told himself that he didn’t identify as someone who engages in homosexual sexual behavior.
They’ve tried stranger lines.
Maybe it was bisexual behavior/acts?
It would seem to me that his biggest transgression is adultery for which he has a lot to do by way of atonement to repair his relationship with his wife and children and to restore his marriage and family.
