An interesting broadcast. It managed to avoid heated arguments, and those ‘phoning-in all seemed very open about what they’d experienced.
I’d also concur with the caller who found that the ex-gay group he attended ended up reinforcing a sense of shame for being who he was, a burden of shame that he was pleased to leave behind him when he left the group.
If you haven’t read her book yet, do it!!
Straight to Jesus will give you a very real sense of the ‘who, why, and how’ of the folks that go to these programs. It’s not an expose or a political screed but a very thoughtful book about her observations.
