Not impressive. Same old junk.
From the transcript I can tell that they didn’t spent enough time to really cover such a complex subject. All that was presented was anecdotal: testimonies and opinions with no statistics or peer reviewed reasearch mentioned. I guess this brief was supposed to be lowbrow entertainment for the masses.
I would be more interested in seeing longer TV debates on the issue, and see people from this blog who actually know a lot more in depth about ‘ex-gay’ issues than the invited public representatives of LGBT and medical organizations.
Xeno, I agree with you–entertainment for the masses. Little sense of credibility was given to Cohen. It appeared that even CNN was painting him as a wacko. (Consider my comments on the other CNN thread…)
CNN didn’t mention that Cohen is the president of PFOX, nor did CNN advise viewers that Cohen had been kicked out of the American Counseling Association.
CNN should have 1) reported the facts about Cohen, 2) sought out other reparative therapists, 3) profiled gay-tolerant and gay-affirming therapists as well, and 4) asked Cohen about the PFOX and FRC’s political activities promoting discrimination and opposing antibullying programs. (FRC founded PFOX and continues to exert influence via Peter Sprigg.)
Actually Mike, CNN did state that Cohen was an unlicensed counselor, but I agree that they didn’t cover his history well enough.
I meant unlicensed therapist, sorry.
BTW, the video is available online here:

I also noticed the profile ‘Rob’ was writting, his favorite music is ‘contemporary Christian music’. *shakes his head in disbelief*
I found it interesting that CNN said that the ex-gay movement gets so much attention because gays despise it so much. I would have thought the right wing touting ex-gay successes in the news frequently was the reason for all of the attention.
