In an stunning display of circa-1984 logic, today’s guest Peter LaBarbera pretends closing the baths will keep gay men from doing unsafe things.
In the name of compassion and being pro gay rights, gay men are dying young. They’re dying in the prime of their life because they’re engaged in practices that are unnatural and frankly very dangerous and we would like to see the bathhouses closed down. We would like to see homosexual men realizing that change is possible as you’ve experienced Steve but unfortunately in Chicago the pro gay media is now so ensconced that they try to say people like are just bigots and we don’t care about homosexuals. Look I care enough to want to shut the bathhouses down so we won’t have men practicing behaviors that are going to kill them in the prime of their life.

First, he’s going off of Cameronian logic that gay people die young.
Second, if he really is trying to be honest (which I am pretty sure he isn’t), he should at least acknowledge that by nearly every account, even ex-gay studies, MOST gay people fail to change their orientation.
Third, while he is using the bathhouses as a political stab at gay people, I can’t say I disagree with him on the fact that closing down batthouses is a good idea.
Bath Houses still exist?I guess Peter would be the one to know.I also guess parks, shopping malls, cafes, streets, schools, workplaces, aircraft, bars, traffic congestion, churches, beaches, etc etc will be next on the list to close down. Because I’ve heard the gays meet the other gays at those places too. Yeah, outrageous ain’t it.Peter’s just pissed that we no longer get burned to death.Oh, speaking of smoke and flames, that’s also another place the gays meet — family BBQs. Perhaps we should ban them too.
I met most gay males I know at church…
It’s difficult as to where to begin with such a stupid statement.
Underneath the bile there’s germ of truth tho- anonymous cruising does spread disease.
Funny thing, tho…
It may be anectdotal, but aren’t a good percentage of the anonymous encounters set really heterosexual identified men– married, pillars of society on the down low?
Boo — I hope those two posts aren’t connected… but, please, do tell me the church where all this anonymous cruising occurs 🙂 I’ll post it over at redhotprayerwarriors.com for the convenience of others. And I don’t think anonymous cruising spreads disease. Surely they’d have to stop cruising and have a go at one another first???(And I know I’m being flippant, but it’s a truism that anything other than complete, 100% celibacy exposes a person to a sexually transmitted infection. And the more people you go around bumping into, the greater the risk of encountering something; eventually. Life’s like that, in all regards…)
Bennett has said he was homossexual with more than a hundred partners and even so he tries to seem so shocked with gays practices. He has never known about Gay Games. Came on!
Die young? I’m 60 and goin strong.
I didn’t know that there were baths still around. But lets face it, “places” don’t kill people. “People” kill people.
Why is it these people don’t think through the choices they make? The bathhouses are filled with guys who may or may not be practicing safe sex. If they were not in the bath house they would be someplace else. The good part of a bath house is it provides a venue for HIV/AIDS awareness. You have brought all these men into one space where you can inform them, help protect them.
If they are going to do this stuff, which as long as they are filled with tesosterone they will, then give them a place where you can group them together an educate them on the subjects they need to know so their wives don’t get infected.
Look I care enough to want to shut the bathhouses down so we won’t have men practicing behaviors that are going to kill them in the prime of their life.
If only they had followed that advice on the shores of Lake Victoria in the late 70’s we might never have heard of AIDS except in an obscure journal entry somewhere, eh Peter? I’m not sure what is more outdated, this “logic” or the bathhouses themselves. Is anyone still ranting about “love-ins” and hippies, too?
