What on earth did I just read? (Indymedia link). I don’t remember ever hearing about this “Mr. Hetero” thing, but it sounds incredibly weird.

I doubt this will be held more than once. It seems like the kind of thing someone might conceive of as a protest, then realize how silly it is while they’re doing it and just not speak of it any more afterwards. I suspect it would be a similar pattern if PFOX ever succeeds in getting an “ex-gay” club into a school.

My favorite sentence from Ms. Harvey’s latest frothing rant is:
“Homosexuality will eventually be seen for the lie it is, a lie against all that God created a person to be; a lie about how people are best to love and relate to one another; a lie of omission about the health hazards involved, the sinful origins of homosexual desire and the real possibility of change.”
This may help explain why Ms. Harvey and her ilk are so quick to say things that are not true. They use the word “lie” differently than what the rest of the world uses it. Since homosexuality is a “lie” then anything she says must be the opposite, whether it is factual or accurate.
I’m sure she believes it. She has the passion of a real zealot, convinced she’s fighting for God. And since she defines “homosexuality” as a lie, she doesn’t even ever have to begin to analyze herself, her motivations, or her statements. Any opposition must be a lie of Satan. It’s amazing the level of self-deception Ms. Harvey is able to employ.
But most interesting of all is “the sinful origins of homosexual desire and the real possibility of change”. Ms. Harvey needs to check in with the ex-gay ministies that push “the possibility of change”. They don’t say that the origins of homosexual desire are sinful.
Poor thing. She never stops to look at what she says. She just strings words together that are familiar from her brand of “God hates you” religion. Since “homosexuality” and “lie” and “sinful” are all bad, they can just be thown together in a sentence as a form of mental shorthand. It doesn’t have to make sense.
Of course, those who are not immersed in her culture will (correctly) perceive her as a nut.

Ms. Harvey is quite obviously a viper — so why do they continue to associate with her and her collegues?The old rule applies: you can only be accountable for your own actions. Ms. Harvey has a distorted and callous dialog with herself — but what’s Exodus’ excuse???
