From Media Matters For America:
Far-right Christian author and American Vision president Gary DeMar was the guest on the February 2 edition of American Family Radio’s Today’s Issues. In the past, DeMar has advocated the installation of a theocratic government in the United States in which homosexuals, adulterers, and abortion doctors would be executed.

The AFA’s founder thinks Mighty Mouse is a coke head. Nothing they do should surprise anyone.
I listened to the audio portion of this post. I find it pretty sad that these people have absolutely no sense of humor. This “sacreligious” crap that this man is talking about has to do with a form of torture that the Roman’s of all people invented (crucifixion). I suppose if Jesus had been hung by a rope and Britney Spears had a program called “Lynchafixens” they’d have just as much of a fit about that. What a bunch of nut bars these extreme religious right psychos are. They are the people who are typically dangerous to our liberties and to the Constitution of the United States. I’m sure that our founding fathers had men like Gary DeMar in mind when they put the separation of Church and State into the Constitution.
I also can’t wait until this coming Fall when the Democrats tip the balance of power back where it belongs. Americans are sick and tired of this administration’s tyrany.
The AFA should be ashamed for bringing this guy on at all, let alone touting his work.
Unbelievable that this fringe group can get any recognition at all from people that consider themselves Christian.
I thought this was funny from the article, “And of course, we’ve seen with [the film] Brokeback Mountain and so forth, just this continual assault on things religious and, most specifically, Christian.”
How exactly does Brokeback Mountain assault all things religious? I didn’t see any assault on religion in there, it was hardly mentioned. Grasping at straws. Yet people still let them get away with this.

Our founding fathers were quite familiar with this type of rhetoric. Here’s a selection from a lovely sermon by Jonathan Edwards in 1741 called Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God:
“The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked: his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours.”
I think DeMar bows to the same altar of hate and vengeance that Edwards worshiped at.
If a similar sermon was given to christians in the southern baptist of assembly of god denomination, these 2 religions would find a similar fate as what happened to puritan christianity, it died as a direct result of this type of sermon, lets hope that pat robertson or Jerry Falwell is stupid enough to preach it then we would see the destruction of the most vile institutions of christianity.

Just to be fair to old Edwards, I believe he did expound on the mercy of God later on in the sermon. To be sure, he was the most famous of the “fire and brimstone” crowd, but for all we know his audience might have been a pretty bad bunch as well 😉 Even so, if DeMar actually advocates executing homosexuals, comparing him and Edwards is really a disservice to Edwards.
