Stephen Bennett’s guest today was straight talking Linda Harvey of Mission America who straight-up pulled a real gem of a statistic out of her ass today:
(+15:15) The more you promote this behavior, especially to your young, the more experimentation you will have. So I don’t think here’s anything that we should expect less than 20 years from now that we might have 20 to 25 percent of our population that is bisexual if we keep going the way we’re going now. (Real Audio / Windows Media)
What a crackpot that woman is! She doesn’t seem to have much of a factual basis for anything she says.
Educators are telling children they should give homosexuality a try? Gay/Straight alliances are promoting gay sex? Students are more likely to engange in gay sex than heterosexual sex because gay sex is “abnormal?”
Reminds me a lot of Joseph McCarthy and his paranoid fantasies about communists in the State Department.
I can’t believe our recruitment efforts could be nearly that successful. For one thing, our dental plan sucks.
Even if that many bisexuals came along, or there were more homosexuals…
My big question to her would be, SO WHAT?
But I’ve noticed that she only shows up in places, media and with people who will agree with her.
It just occurred to me. I just read something about polar bears becoming intersexed due to industrial pollution.
This is a more common occurence in the Dominican too.
Perhaps the population bomb, and the attendant pollution and squeeze on natural resources might cause a natural sterility or homosexuality among humans to reduce the population.
But, of course, instead of seeing it as a sign of Mother Nature correcting overpopulation, humans will resort to unnatural practices such as
In vitro fertilization, end stage prolonging of life.
Cloning, other forms of fertilization without the opposite sex, or growing fetuses to full term without the womb.
Or using animal wombs to surrogate human fetuses.
All this instead of ADOPTION in many cases.
We already behave as if the human being is on the brink of extinction instead of heeding the call of nature that has those checks and balances already in place.
I have started to take this episode apart line by line, my tight schedule has prevented me from having the time to trnscript all of it, but you can read what I have done so far at http://www.joebrummer.com/WordPress
I think Ms Harvey’s got it wrong, society doesn’t need to promote same sex behavior for 20 to 25 percent of the population to acknowledge experiencing some level of same sex attraction, it simply has to stop supressing it. I speak from personal experience, as a child/adolescent I had roughly that percentage of same sex classmates with whom I experienced various degrees of sexual play. I’m a strong believer that anti-gays like her are reacting at least partially to the fear of their own same sex attractions.
Much as I’m sure it will offend some, assuming she was correct about the 20 to 25 percent figure and those people randomly chose same or opposite sex partners there’d be an equal split giving roughly the 10 percent figure something something Kinsey…
Awesome! I guess I should start preparing the fruit baskets and orientation videos now… 🙂
Seriously, I’d LOVE to know where/how she got this.
Thanks for sharing!
Right. And the more you promote left handedness, the more ambidextrous people you’ll have in the population too.
Seriously. No…really. Just keep whacking your head with a 2×4 and it’ll make sense to you too.
Harvey’s observation deserves a big fat “Duh” — OF COURSE people are more likely to act on their natural desires and/or curiousity when there are fewer LindaHarveys threatening them with Jesus curses or ostracism or violence. And we — but not she — can take comfort in the fact that there will be more of us and fewer of her in the coming generations. I’ll admit it: I’m delighted to see her realize that heterosexuality — increasingly stripped of its coercive conformist powers — will prove to be a bit less than the universal mandate the Christian fundies believe it is. And I’m even more delighted that Harvey is visualizing her own grandchildren in this inevitable scenario.

LOL, thanks Bruce, that gave me a chuckle (and a wonderful visual).
