Daniel, you and I are probably on opposite sides of this issue.
While I think the Christian school is idiotic and anti-Christian by kicking out the daughter of a lesbian couple, I certainly support their right to do so.
And for the lesbian parents to file a civil suit is extremely harmful to our community. This plays into the whole argument that the nuts use saying “the homosexual agenda is to stifle what a preacher can say in the pulpit”. It took what was a sympathetic position and made it look like activism.
Let the Christian schools believe what they want. We don’t need to get involved. Nor do we need to protest our local southern baptist church because of their homophobic interpretations of scripture.
If we really care what is being taught in church or religious school, the best way to counter that is by presenting an alternative. And many churches and Christian schools are starting to do that. Let the other ones dwindle of their own accord.
In the meanwhile, rent SAVED!, the cute little movie about a Christian high school starring Mandy Moore, Jena Malone, and McCauley Caulkin. There’s even an ex-gay subplot.
File under: What Were They Thinking?I’d have to agree that I don’t particularly care that anti-gay people don’t want to associate with gay men or women (and nor should have to) in their own associations. The two women clearly understood what environment they had enrolled their child into. Why they would even do that I really cannot fathom.Having said that, I prefer the RC approach which is to accept the child into the school but not the (presumed) sexual aspect partent’s relationship. There was a similar controversy in (urh..) California some months back with two guys and their child — in that case a few anti-gay parents raised a ruckus. Very different response from the school system, and most other parents.
good service
