Peterson Toscano appears tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT/MT, on the PAX cable network’s program Faith Under Fire, hosted by Lee Strobel.
Toscano, a performance artist, is going up against Alan Chambers in a program segment on ex-gays.
(Hat tip: Rick)
Toscano is the creator of:
- the one-man faith-based comedy show Doin’ Time in the Homo Nomo Halfway House;
- Queer 101: "Through this one-man performance piece, Toscano delves into the passion and confusion of internet dating, plumbs the depths of queer history, and humorously exposes the conflicts and contradictions within the queer community today."
- speeches to students and educators
Woo Hoo! I thought Peterson was great – especially his humorous though pointed insistance that the language of ‘gay lifestyle’ is meaningless and unhelpful. Lee Strobel seemed irritated with that exchange in an impatiently hetero sort of way. Alan is so earnest and has gorgeous, expressive blue eyes. So I’m sure he was convincing to those who wished to be convinced by his smooth ‘the Bible says’ appeals. Truthfully, I’ll believe a French beret over a suit and tie any day. I’ve only watched Faith Under Fire a few times, and have been surprised that the conservative Lee Strobel has maintained neutrality in each segment of each show. TONIGHT he spoke the words “I’m on your side, Alan” which surprised me – though I guess this issue might be too hot for neutrality.
Regan,
I disagree that gay people in particular have been without positive media influences in recent decades.
Various media (news, entertainment, broadcast, print, film) frequently provide inaccurate and unflattering portrayals of all demographic groups, which is why (I think) many people accuse the “media” of being biased against them — they don’t stop to consider that other people feel just as slighted.
I also disagree that conservatives want to own the image of gay people. Perhaps you meant the religious right?
