In an April 16 issue of “Media Spotlights” that contains numerous errors of basic grammar as well as fact, Exodus International says:
1) The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) published a position statement titled, “Homosexual Parenting: Is It Time For Change?
From the ACP statement:
“…the environment in which children are reared is absolutely critical to their development. Given the current body of research, the American College of Pediatricians believes it is inappropriate, potentially hazardous to children, and dangerously irresponsible to change the age-old prohibition on homosexual parenting…”
Same sex couples raising children have been on the periphery of the current marriage debate. Marriage was on the periphery of the non-discrimination battles that lit fire to the grassroots in 2003 and prior. Defenders of the family have pointed out that one thing leads to another and can officially say, “I told you so.” Without having proven discrimination in any of the three areas of civil rights protections (immutability, widespread pattern of abuse and economic disenfranchisement) homosexual activists and their friends in the media have pressed on to attempt redefinition of marriage for all of us. While world focuses on the immediate battle over same sex marriage, the media (resembling mass marketing) is preparing the public to buy into homosexual parenting by introducing a few stories attached to marriage coverage that tug at our hearts without the balance of critical review.
Homosexual adoption, custody and foster care are current battles that have slipped in under the radar. Defenders of the family should take note of the courageous ACP stand and challenge every statute affording homosexual adoption and foster care.
Former homosexuals know the importance of maintaining, supporting and protecting true marriage: one man, one woman for one lifetime. Single men and women of God, as well as those who are living out godly marriages, know the importance of what God originally intended for marriage and for families. Many former homosexuals understand the desires of the past to raise children with our partners. We, and many others, wanted to raise children because it is innate for the human soul to want to reproduce. Yet, children do not exist simply to satisfy the heartfelt wishes of adults. Children must take root in a home that truly affords every opportunity to flourish.
Exodus routinely omits news items about discrimination and antigay violence from its media blog and its Spotlights articles; the omissions of fact are seen as a means to argue that discrimination and violence do not happen at all. This line of reasoning is borrowed from the old philosophical joke about the sound of a tree falling in a forest where no one is present to hear it. Here’s Exodus’ reasoning: If a gay man is fired or killed in another city, and there is no exgay present to see it, did it really happen?
Beyond its routine omission of discrimination news and its stereotypes about the media (plural), Exodus omits a key fact: The ACP is not a professional peer organization of pediatricians. It is a conservative religious organization founded specifically to oppose all forms of “homosexual parenting.”
What do nonpartisan experts say? This article published April 13 in the Hartford Courant summarizes the state of affairs, concluding that the children of gay parents are doing well, with only minor differences from the children of heterosexual parents.
Moreover, the American Academy of Pediatricians which IS a professional organisation with 57,000 members has recently released a press statement supporting adoption by gay partners.
Moderator’s note: I created a hyperlink for the document J is referring to.
I’m interested to know how many members this pseudo-secular façade for the religious reich has, compared to the American Academy of Pediatricians. My guess is that it is simply a rogue organization like NARTH.
Note ACP was formed as a direct reaction to the AAP’s support of gay adoption and parenting. Therefore, I would guess a lot of the members are also members of “religious right” churches.
It is also interesting that once again the real fears of the anti-gay movement are revealed. Of course stories of happy parents and children (some of whom happen to be gay) “tug at our hearts” – because they are wonderful stories. The anti-gay movement cannot allow such stories to exist, and when they are published repeatedly decries these “anecdotes” – as if their “ex-gay” examples are anything other than anecdotal – as not representative of the “truth” about gay parenting.
If the real truth – that gays are very similar to straights, both in functional and dysfunctional families – ever gets out, it will undermine the anti-gay movements attempt to brand us all as monsters.
The Religious Reich has a front organization, staffed and supported by true believers, for any and all positions they want to advocate. If you don’t have experts on your side, just create your own brand of “experts.” It’s an old tactic.
I’m sure all those good christians will be lining up to take care of the kids that gay people are currently caring for.
(/sarcasm)
Although the prospect does bring to mind the saga of Earl “Butch” Kimmerling.

I believe that everyone who is against homo-sexual parenting is self centered and selfish. Homo-sexuals are people too. How can you put a label on what kind of people can adopt children? First it might start off as homo-sexuals, but then it could posibly lead to ethnic groups. What kind of society are we if we punish people who want to not only help but love another child. That is outrageous
