Proclaiming “Beacon Hill not bullied by judicial tyranny,” Exodus International applauded the Massachusetts legislature’s approval Monday of a constitutional amendment that would ban marriage for gays and legalize civil unions instead.
The Family Research Council, however, accused the legislature of “blackmail” against the state’s voters for not giving them the option to vote on gay marriage and civil unions separately.
I’m a little angry about this Mass. change of feeling. Make up your goddamned mind already!
Wow, that’s a surprising stand from Exodus considering NARTH is firmly against even civil unions. Guess I just don’t know Exodus as well as I thought I did.
In this situation, neither NARTH, Exodus or even FRC concern me much – I think one of the reasons for the change of heart (at least apparent change of heart) in MA was the strong-arm tactics of the local Catholic Church, which has instituted a voter drive with the express mandate of getting pro-gay marriage legislators out office, has been lobbying all legislators very hard (including namin them from the pulpit during Mass, while they are attending) and producing a video to be shown at Masses that uses every typical “pro-family” anti-gay argument there is.

The people at Exodus are caught between two worlds. I believe that they are very familiar with an extreme anti-gay homophobic branch of conservative Christianity, but I believe they see themselves as standing between that true hatred and the gay community.
From our viewpoint, since most of their policies are anti-gay, we only see the side that opposes us. But when viewed from the perspective of those who are total gay-haters, the people at Exodus can sometimes appear to be very “soft” on homosexuality.
There is an internal struggle within the exgay movement that has been there from the beginning. The vehemently anti-gay on one side to the “live and let live” people on the other.
The video being shown in Massachusetts (and probably many other states soon) is truly disgusting. They have an old woman dying alone and in pain in the hospital, and they say that she would be alive if not for the money the government had to give away for civil unions.
The bigots are overrunning that state. If you want to help stop them, tell your friends to donate time and money to organizations like:

and to try to help legislators like Brian Joyce who will have 3 arch-conservative, anti-gay people trying to unseat him thanks to his voting against the amendment.
