Online media coverage of the ex-gay “Love Won Out” conference in Oklahoma City, and related protests, seems to be sparse.

“Love Won Out? The Selling of False Hope to Vulnerable People“
It is so sad how so many people encourage homo sexuality, they just think of the moment when they are pleasing someone ears, they don’t see the long term effects, the pain, the doubts, the loneliness, the incurable illness, is like a chain of pain of the person in homosexual life, the people that love them, the ones that everyday fall in this fatal trap.
Counselors in schools and out of schools, teachers, some that call themselves christians and compromise God’s truth, feeding the lie. When we love we speak the truth in love to save each soul, a comforting temporary lie will not save souls. Do not tell me that homosexuals respect kids, my own wonderful son was seduced by a teacher in school, my son has been always the best in everything he does, but when this happened affected his whole life and ended dropping out of school, he went through so many painful years of confusion, the school counselor told him:”it is okay to explore sexuality, to find out your preference”, she just added to his confusion and pain, finally now that he is 24 years old, his life and his heart are finding healing and truth, my son always knew were I stood about homosexuality, and I just kept praying all these years for his healing and for the truth to grow in his heart so he can be free and never again the victim of selfish homosexual men that we find in schools, etc.
Now I pass this message of awareness every where I go, and I speak the truth in love to homosexuals and any other sinner. The church and all followers of Jesus should do the same, love the sinner and hate the sin. Homosexuals need God too, and the truth that will set them free.
In Christ love

Unfortunately or fortunately, Isabel, your son’s experience is not the norm for gay people – nor do we all (or even most of us) suffer from a “chain of pain” involving lonliness, emptiness and disease. Contrary to the slander promoted by certain pseudo-“Christians” (Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell come to mind) there are millions of healthy, happy gay and lesbian people in the world, and that is the actual truth.
You see, whether you choose to believe it or not, we do not fall into a “trap,” nor are we “seduced.” We simply are – a normal and naturally occurring variant of the human being. We are no more evil or good than anyone else, just different.
I do hope your son has recovered from his molestation – that is a crime no child should ever experience (I know, because my own sister was raped by a cousin of ours), but you should not blame homosexuality for that crime. Gay people are no more likely, and in fact may be less likely to molest children than straight people.
You certainly have the right to your “religious” beliefs, but I also have the right to my own. And my religious/moral beliefs include the concept that I am a decent honorable person, who is increasing the love and happiness in the world by being my honest, true, and God-given self. I prayed for more years than I care to remember to change, and finally learned the truth – God said “no.”
CPTDOOM: I prayed for more years than I care to remember to change, and finally learned the truth – God said “no.”

Thanks for the advice, DL Foster, but unfortunately, I cannot take it. You see, your advice comes from a “religious” tradition that I cannot and will not accept as valid. Your advice for reaching God is based on your opinion of who God is and how He should be worshipped. But as I know that “religious” tradition is false and deceitful, to follow your advice would be to allow evil into my life.
