Richard T. Cooper and Johanna Neuman of the LA Times profile the obsessively antigay religious-right outfit Concerned Women for America.
While it cites conservative critics of the CWFA’s ideological extremism and incivility, the article at no time balances its coverage with viewpoints outside the religious right.
This is nothing new for LA Times. They have run cartoons by Ramirez or whatever his name is that have a father and son getting married. They have run articles which say things like “the media runs images of a little old lesbian with a tear running down her cheek, and that makes America feel guilty”. They ran an article earlier this year which was all about how awful it was to claim that people who support the Federal Marriage Amendment are anti-gay or that people who oppose gay marriage are bigots. That these people are really just martyrs because the media does not paint an accurate picture of the horrors of homosexuality. They interviewed some woman who claimed she had gay friends and she had no problem with civil unions, and they failed to mention that this woman is a huge anti-gay activist who has campaigned to ban any pro-gay laws or benefits.
Who runs LA Times? The magazine tries to spread lies and fear against homosexuals but in what they think is a subtle way. You notice that this article brags about CFA trying to get rid of civil unions. That is the next battle the media and the GOP are undertaking, because of some poll that had the public rejecting civil unions. The media hates homosexuals as anything but freak shows and are working full time to make America despise us. This crap, ABC’s Matthew Shepard piece, CBS having reality shows like Wickedly Perfect where gays are called “pansies”, etc. It’s an attempt to dehumanize gays and make sure America does not see us as anything more than minstrels.
The media loves to talk big about these hate groups because they think it will get the hate groups off their back and because they think it puts them in touch with the “little people”. And of course they don’t even mention that Beverly LaHaye’s son Lee is a big time closet case, and he runs the money at CFA. They don’t mention where CFA got that money. They just act like CFA is some kind of hot shit when in reality CFA is just a nutjob organization who would not exist if not for the help of other, more stable leaders (like Dobson).
The biggest irony of all is that they go on and on about the power of all these mythical women who go out and march in Washington, yet nearly every person they interview from CFA is a man! How does that work exactly?
