According to Agape Press and former Family Research Council spokeswoman Janet Parshall, Christians who dare to disagree with them on such matters as abortion and gay clergy are guilty of “apostasy.”
Parshall says absolute truth is found only in her interpretation of Scripture, and that interpretation must be obeyed by all.
You are ignorant, aren’t you??? Absolute truth is found in the bible!!! No interpretations needed..I believe Mrs. Parshall would support me on that.
Which Babble is that, neeno? The Wholly Babble?
BTW, maybe Parshall should consider making herself useful.
Mike, I am afraid you are misquoting Ms. Parshall. She didn’t say that absolute truth was found in her interpretation of Scripture but rather absolute truth is found in Scripture. What you need to show is your position from the text of Scripture alone. Futhermore, since the interpretation is new an extra burden is on you to show why you are correctly interpreting it while the church has been misinterpreting it. This is not impossible, but it is rare (e.g., Luther and his interpretation of justification by faith alone). This was why the very first thing the Lutherans did was to compose the Augsberg Confession and justify their novel doctrines by Scripture. If you don’t do the same, the claim that it is only a different interpretation rings hollow and the charge of apostacy sticks.
Let me give an example of what I am talking about. An old earth is a novel interpretation of Scripture. I happen to believe it is true, nonetheless. People who hold to this have been accused of being apostate and abandoning Scripture. So, we do the following. Failing to do this legwork is one of the reasons there is a divide in modern Christianity. Just as I cringe when young-earth creationists tie orthodoxy to their particular scientific theories, I also cringe when old-earth believers abandon Scripture. This is where the nub is. If you can allay the fears that you are abandoning Scripture some of the opposition will evaporate.
