Love In Action, the live-in program that became infamous in 2005 for subjecting a then-16-year-old teen-ager named Zach to involuntary live-in indoctrination for nearly two months, has discontinued its “Refuge” youth program.
The announcement was made tonight (June 30) at the Ex-Gay Survivor Conference in Irvine, Calif. Filmmaker Morgan Jon Fox learned of the closure while contacting Love In Action’s director, Exodus board member John Smid, in connection with Fox’s upcoming movie. Fox disclosed the news in a last-minute change to a previously scheduled preview of his movie This Is What Love In Action Looks Like.
This Is What Love In Action Looks Like premieres in January 2008.
Will this movie be released on DVD? I’ve never heard of the project. Can anyone tell me about it?
Also, I’m finding it ever more fascinating… Exodus makes big claims to cover up desperate losses. I wonder why such a powerhouse of an industry is experiencing such losses. These are exactly the reasons why I visit XGW.
I`d apritiate some info aswell .
I just wanted to clear up a little bit of information…
The text at the end of the preview for my documentary, This Is What Love In Action Looks Like, stated “The Refuge Program has been discontinued”. This much is true, however, I just wanted to make clear that Love In Action still ministers to teens, and has developed a newer program designed more for the parents of gay teens. Also, as stated, I did meet with John Smid, however, our meeting wasnt about my documentary. Me and John meet and chat occassionally but it is more about us just getting to know one another. Since I was apart of the original demonstrations at Love In Action in the summer of 2005, it has been very educational and interesting to get to know John…though we have our differences, it is my belief that sitting down and speaking with those we share differences with can be a very enlightening experience.
I’m just making sure that no one was getting the wrong impression from my words.
As far as the dvd release, etc…I’m not sure at this point. The doc has been in the works since the summer of 2005 and is still in production. When I know more information, I will let it be known.
Thanks for the questions.
