Gay activist Reverend Brett Harris has passed away at the age of 48.
As the founder of Friends of BRYCE, he did much to draw attention to the plight of Bryce Faulkner, the 23-year-old gay man allegedly coerced into ex-gay therapy by an overbearing family. In doing so, he drew people’s attention to the scandal of religiously inspired homophobia and reparative therapy.
Peter C Harris and Gary Konecky reflect on Brett’s death and legacy.
Rest in peace, Brett Harris.
Whether we like it or not, the success of the American LGBT movement is tied to the Church. People like Harris are crucial.
He will be greatly missed. Rev. Brett Harris had touched many peoples lives as well as mine. No one will be able to EVER fill his shoes. They’re will NEVER be another “Rev” Brett Harris in my life! He was quite unique! I’m goin’ to miss him greatly!
Rev Brett Harris will be truly missed by all. His work will continue in some shape or form as the founding members that are still here will keep doing his work and making sure that Ex Gay Therapy and the works of Religious Radicals are made public, in a hope that the Federal Goverment will start regulating these kinds of Therapies. That was one of Rev’s dreams to see happen.
You are missed my dear friend, and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you. I feel that you are here in spirit guiding us through this.
