Don Wildmon’s AFA yesterday announced a letter-writing campaign calling on NBC affiliates not to air the April 13 episode of “Will & Grace” because it features Britney Spears as a conservative Christian who airs a cooking segment called “Cruci-fixin’s” on Jack’s formerly-gay TV network.
The blogosphere has just started to discuss.
I have little doubt that some Bible Belt affiliates will decline to air the show, just as they declined to air “Book of Daniel” due to — ironically enough — that show’s caricature of liberal Christians.
There has been a race in the West to defend a recent Muhammad cartoon against the protests of Muslims who can’t tolerate criticism. I wonder who will now come to the defense of “Will & Grace” against Christians who can’t tolerate humor?
(And, given the declining quality and pending cancellation of the show, who would bother to defend it?)
Many Christian conservatives are getting upset about lots of minor things. There is an interesting article about Chad Allen and evangelicals: https://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/02/national/02spear.html
Or here is the great I Am controversy for AOL: https://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48585
Whats more humorous about this is that the “Cruci-fixins” joke was actually made about 4 months ago on Arrested Development, another doomed show. No one complained then because, let’s face it, it’s truly a moot point to argue about.
There is one difference between pissing off conservative Christians and Muslims: if you piss off the Christians, you get a boycott. If you piss off the Muslims, you get beheaded.
John,
I encourage you to look over XGW’s articles about Repent America.
The founder of that organization — which enjoys marketing and political support from Exodus, Focus on the Family, and AFA — believes that homosexuals should be executed.
