Wayne Besen? I appreciate his work in exposing the “ex-gay myth,” but he deals with people cruelly using the guise of morality. His intentions aside, I find much of Wayne’s rhetoric just plain mean, and that helps no one. Especially when it is so easy to make the case against Johnston and others without resorting to insults.

I am looking forward to Wayne Besen’s book but I unfortunately have to agree that his work does often seem mean-spirited and downright angry. I don’t think his anger is unjustified, but I’m afraid for some his message is apt to be lost in his negativity.

I decided that Wayne was being overzealous when I was interviewed about the exclusion of bisexuals by the LGBT community on his (and at the time, Natalie’s) show, and he tried to lead me into saying that all “successful” ex-gays are actually bisexuals. (I ended up joking my way out of it.)
